Roundtable Reading Series: Shidaiqu!
Facilitated by MTF Artistic Staff + Annie Wang
DETAILS
The Roundtable Reading Series is a dedicated space for table readings, offering artists the opportunity to present their work in a supportive and collaborative environment. Each session features a guest dramaturg who provides constructive feedback, with notes sent to the artists to aid in their development process. This month, we'll be reading Shidaiqu by Jord Liu: "Shidaiqu" is set in a combination of 1920s Shanghai and modern day San Francisco, where a group of young artists, activists, and musicians navigate complex personal and political landscapes. Amidst the allure of jazz and the early conflict between the ruling GMD party and the rising communist movement, they confront questions of solidarity, and finding the resilience to continue struggling in a world that is complex and seemingly uncaring. This evocative musical explores the intersection of personal dreams and collective struggle against the backdrop of a rapidly changing city."
